The upcoming World of Concrete Asia (WOCA) – the Asian edition of the World of Concrete series – will take place on 14-16 August 2024 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai, China.

\n\n

Occupying more than 50,000 sq m of exhibition space, WOCA 2024 will showcase various products, technologies and solutions for the concrete, flooring and mortar industries in Asia. The event is expected to gather over 720 exhibitors, with about 50,000 trade visitors (locally and globally) including distributors, manufacturers, contractors, owners, developers, architects and designers.

\n\n

WOCA 2024 serves as a one-stop platform for manufacturers, real estate developers, owners, designers, contractors, distributors and engineering companies to source, network and generate new business opportunities. The event covers the whole industry chain, and adapt to the evolving demands of different sectors such as industrial, education, residential, hospitality, healthcare, public space, office, commercial complex, retail and more.

\n\n

According to the organiser, buyers from overseas are expected to increase significantly. They will come from countries like Japan, Korea, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. Several on-site events will also be held during WOCA 2024, including Golden Trowel Asia Awards, WOCA Awards, live demonstration, national floor industry vocational skills competition finals, and WOCA business matching service.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction (E&C) has developed a high-performance floor structure system, called ‘H Silent Home System I’, and obtained an on-site certification of the floor impact sound blocking structure for the first time in Korea.

\n\n

The H Silent Home System I incorporates high-performance buffer materials (composite high-end materials), designed to reduce noise and maximise shock absorption. It adjusts the natural frequency of vibration of the floor system to block the transmission of low-frequency shock vibration, thereby effectively reducing inter-floor noise, especially the heavy-weight impact sound.

\n\n

This special high-tech buffer material, jointly developed by Hyundai E&C and a partner company specialising in floor impact sound insulation, recently received a patent registration.

\n\n

“Inter-floor noise is usually measured, tested and certified in laboratories, which often differ in performance from actual sites,” explained Hyundai E&C. “Our H Silent Home System I was the first in the construction industry to be recognised for its reliability by receiving a certification from sites, rather than a laboratory, with its inter-floor noise reduction performance validated by a certifying body.”

\n\n

The new H Silent Home System I is suitable for use in residential projects. Hyundai E&C plans to select a pilot site from the second half of this year in which the H Silent Home System I can be applied.

\n\n

Hyundai E&C is committed to conducting studies on inter-floor reduction technologies. Since May last year, the company has set up a team of experts in various fields, including noise/vibration, structures, materials, quality and purchase, to develop a new floor structure system.

\n\n

The company is seeking additional technology development through internal research and with external partners and continues to solve inter-floor noise problems through open R&D, such as holding a noise reduction technology contest and introducing technologies in other fields.

\n\n

An official from Hyundai E&C said, “Based on the latest innovative technology, we will continue to work to solve the social issue of inter-floor noise and realise the best residential value.”

\n\n

Meanwhile, Hyundai E&C is continuing its investments in R&D and development of other technologies, including prevention of stack effect, wind tunnel experiments, and reduction of condensation, in addition to inter-floor noise reduction systems.

With Mapei’s Planitop HPC Floor, strengthening floor slabs can now be performed easily without the need for additional tools, such as steel connectors or electro-welded mesh that are typically required for traditional floor slabs.

\n\n

Planitop HPC Floor is a one-component, fibre-reinforced, shrinkage-compensated, high-strength fluid cementitious mortar designed to make structural screeds suitable for strengthening floor slabs. When mixed with water, the system forms a fluid mortar that can be cast into formwork in layers from 1- to 4-cm-thick without segregating, and without the need for electro-welded reinforcing mesh.

\n\n

Once hardened, Planitop HPC Floor is highly ductile, impermeable to water and develops high resistance to cyclical loads and has very high flexural and compressive strength. It adheres well to old concrete and reinforcement rods. The system has been certified as R4-class structural mortars and complies with EN 1504-9, EN 1504-3 and EN 1504-6 standards.

\n\n

To allow expansion in the open air, Mapecure SRA may be added - a special admixture with the ability to reduce plastic and hydraulic shrinkage to ensure better curing of mortar. This admixture can minimise the water evaporation and encourage the hydration process. It acts as an internal curing agent, which reduces final shrinkage by 20% - 50%, resulting in lower risk of cracking.

\n\n

The Planitop HPC Floor from Mapei is ideal for repairing and strengthening reinforced concrete and horizontal structures where high-performance, free-flowing mortar is needed to integrate thick layers or fill complex areas. Such applications include strengthening the extrados of floor beams, repairing industrial floors, concrete floors of roads, airports and viaducts, and seismic upgrading of elements subjected to high stresses.
