The Danjiang Bridge over the Tamsui River on the outskirts of Taipei, Taiwan, is currently under construction. The structure, designed by Zaha Hadid, is expected to be the world’s longest asymmetric cable-stayed bridge upon completion in 2025, at 920 m.

\n\n

Zaha Hadid won the Danjiang Bridge International Competition back in 2015 for her design of the asymmetrical bridge. When completed, it will connect the Tamsui District in New Taipei City with the Bali District across the river – thus relieving the pressure on other transport routes.

\n\n

The pylon in the centre of the bridge is a highlight. It towers into the air in the shape of an upturned ‘Y’ and stands, figuratively speaking, with its two legs in the river. The stay cables, which run in parallel to the top of the pylon from both sides, give the structure a futuristic appearance.

\n\n

Peri was involved in the construction of the pylon by providing, among other things, a custom-designed formwork solution for concreting a total area of 18,000 sq m. To create this futuristic look, Peri developed a freeform formwork system specifically for the project to construct 3,000 sq m of the entire surface.

\n\n

The complex, ever-changing shape of the pylon, which stretches upwards over 53 sections, posed the biggest challenge. Peri provided its versatile Vario, SCS and ACS systems, which could be individually adapted to the varying geometry.

\n\n

Customised formwork solutions

\n\n

Peri systems are characterised by their adaptability to unusual project requirements as well as their compatibility with other Peri products. Using its standard portfolio as a basis, Peri came up with a coordinated, customised solution from a single source for each section of the unique pylon shape.

\n\n

As such, the Vario GT 24 Girder Wall Formwork provided the ideal foundation for each section of the 200-m-high pylon. After all, this dimensionally stable formwork makes it possible to pour up to 18 m of concrete at a time.

\n\n

To realise the various shapes and radii of the pylon, Peri Climbing Systems were used alongside formwork solutions. A combination of ACS and SCS was chosen to ensure that processes were quick and efficient. The SCS Climbing System made it possible to construct the inclined design at the upper and lower ends. To help construct the central, straight section, the ACS Self-Climbing System was used, which climbs up the emerging building on rails.

\n\n

“Since we have been using Peri products, the project has been running smoothly. The efficiency is constantly high so that our requirements regarding the progress of the projects are fully fulfilled,” said Zeng Wei-Cheng, site manager at KSECO.

\n\n

Peri engineers are also on hand to advise the construction site team throughout the project. From start to finish, the experts provide support with planning and preparation, on-site construction and final completion.

The new Songdo Central Park III consists of two 143-m-high luxury residential towers, located in Incheon city, South Korea. Each of them has 40 storeys, providing space for 351 residential units.

\n\n

The development is being built under strict safety requirements and within a tight construction schedule. It is estimated for completion in early 2023. The contractor on the project is Posco E&C Co Ltd.

\n\n

The RCS Max rail climbing system from Peri was deployed on site – the first time it was used in the country – to meet the demand for efficient construction and low personnel costs.

\n\n

A total of 84 consoles as well as hydraulic units were supplied during the construction of the residential towers. The RCS Max offers an innovative climbing process, smart safety features and easy assembly of the climbing consoles.

\n\n

Due to the strict guidelines by the South Korean government, safety was the top priority for all participants and processes. According to Peri, the RCS Max system was convincing the customer with decentralised hydraulic units that enabled all platforms to climb upwards synchronously. Thus potential sources of danger, like falling edges or falling parts, could be avoided.

\n\n

Other functions such as an automatic stop in case of overload or collision, a dead man’s control with several remote controls, and an emergency stop switch on each platform, rounded off the multi-layered safety concept of the rail-guided climbing system.

\n\n

Another highlight of the system was its efficient climbing process. The load transfer via the lower climbing section meant that the platforms were ready to be used again more quickly for the next section, which shortened the climbing cycle and ultimately the construction time of the project.

\n\n

Peri pointed out that the climbing process incorporated only a few steps, allowing site personnel to learn with minimal training effort. The intuitive plug-and-play configuration made the system very easy to set up and did not require any specialised personnel, keeping labour costs low right from the start.

\n\n

The integrated hydraulics of the RCS Max system also reduced crane use to a minimum. Via the RCS C Max climbing rails, which were particularly flexible in their inclination, the consoles were connected to the building at all times via climbing shoes. These, in turn, could be easily installed at chest height of the operator and without any ladder at all, leading to higher safety for the site personnel.

\n\n

Furthermore, the new RCS Max components are fully compatible with the RCS rail climbing system. This allowed the RCS Max to be combined with the RCS P climbing protection panel in South Korea. As the cylinder was firmly connected to the system at all times and climbed upwards with it, no awkward conversions were necessary. As a result, synchronous climbing of all platforms was possible, even with the enclosure solution. The work could be carried out safely even at great heights and with high wind loads.

\n\n

The new RCS Max hydraulic unit came up with new features as well. Any malfunctions were immediately indicated by a light signal on the power unit, so they could be quickly recognised and directly remedied. A display attached to the unit by cable also enabled the construction site team to fully monitor the entire climbing process. This reduced any downtimes and increased productivity on the construction site.

\n\n

Throughout the entire project, Peri provided support and advice to the site team. Intensive advance planning and on-site supervision of the climbing process ensured that the construction work progressed rapidly. In this way, the project requirements were met and the tight construction schedule adhered to.

RCS Max is part of the RCS rail climbing system from Peri. Its new components, the RCS Max hydraulic unit and the RCS Max drive rails can be easily combined with the existing RCS material to optimise the performance of the system.

\n\n

The focus at this year’s bauma will be on the new C and CL drive rails, the cylinder of which is now firmly connected to the system and climbs along with it. This makes cumbersome conversions a thing of the past, saving valuable time and costs on the construction site. The vertical loads can be transferred via a climbing shoe into the already cured concreting section, resulting in faster concreting cycles. And with reduced cylinder cycles, the RCS Max now needs fewer steps to reach the next position.

\n\n

For excellent safety, the decentralised hydraulics enables synchronous climbing of all platforms. This eliminates fall edges and reduces potential sources of danger for site personnel. Smart safety features such as the dead man’s switch, an automatic stop in case of overload and collision as well as an emergency stop switch on each platform round off the safety concept. Complete monitoring of the climbing process is also possible by light signals on the RCS Max hydraulic unit and by the display.

\n\n

The SCS climbing system is another highlight from Peri. Its standardised bracket system for single and double-sided applications is also based on a modular principle, allowing for optimal adaptation to project-specific requirements and geometries.

\n\n

In particular, the ability to combine with components of the Variokit engineering construction kit and the Peri Up scaffolding kit as well as the small number of components, make the SCS climbing system an economical and flexible solution for engineering structures.

\n\n

With the pre-assembled platforms, the SCS system can be quickly ready for use in a wide range of applications. Its high load-bearing capacity ensures rapid construction progress with few climbing sections. Two console bracket discs form a crane-movable unit together with Peri wall formwork.

\n\n

In addition, the upgraded components of Peri’s VGK work platform offer new application possibilities in structural and transport engineering. Apart from their use as cantilevered parapet brackets, these now enable even more flexible use of the console bracket solution.

\n\n

Especially with pier heads or complex geometries, the VGK can be used as lightweight work platforms for walls that slope forwards and backwards. The platforms are available in three different widths to meet a variety of requirements.

\n\n

The VGK can also now be used as a work platform in building construction. To deliver a safe construction process, the comparatively light components can be pre-assembled on the ground and suspended from the structure as a complete platform unit.

\n\n

In the area of 3D modelling, Peri offers augmented and virtual reality with the Extended Experience App. In this way, the models can be optimally integrated into the planning and construction process. The level of detail reflects the design planning precisely; plans can be walked through virtually and even projected into the physical environment.

\n\n

Other innovative solutions from Peri include the Variokit VIL incremental launching facility, which provides a cost-effective production of external, internal and slab formwork for bridges using the incremental launching method. The optimised shuttering and striking mechanism of the slab formwork via roller dropheads releases the formwork more quickly for time-critical work in the construction sequence and thus ensures accelerated workflows.

\n\n

Thanks to the cross-swivel head, the slab props of the mobile VIL slab formwork solution can also be folded up easily – and do not have to be moved by hand. During the moving process, the roller dropheads automatically bring the formwork back into concreting position.

\n\n

Furthermore, Peri’s mega construction kit is made up of system components from the Peri Up scaffolding kit and the Variokit engineering construction kit. Both construction kits are based on the metric assembly and coupling grid of 12.5 cm, 25 cm and 50 cm, and thus can cope with almost any building geometry or required load transfer.

\n\n

Despite their small number of core components, both construction kits provide a wide range of assembly and design variants when combined, at a low investment cost. The fully rentable components make the mega construction kit a particularly economical customised solution for building, bridge and tunnel construction as well as transport and plant engineering.

\n\n

Peri will also showcase its VTC tunnel formwork carriage. This is based on components of the Variokit engineering construction kit, delivering a high degree of flexibility to the users.
