BICES gets ready for 2023 edition, with number of exhibitors and show area expected to reach ‘historic highs’

BICES – the Beijing International Construction Machinery, Building Materials Machines and Mining Machines Exhibition & Seminar – is getting ready for its 16th edition, which will take place from 20 to 23 September 2023 at the China International Exhibition Centre (New Venue) in Beijing, China.

The show, organised by the China Construction Machinery Association (CCMA), China Construction Machinery Co Ltd (CNCMC) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade – Machinery Sub-Council (CCPIT-MSC), is anticipated to attract a large number of international visitors, especially with China’s opening of borders.

Speaking at the pre-show press conference and exhibitor preparation meeting held on 13 June 2023 in Beijing, the organisers said the number of confirmed exhibitors has exceeded 1,000, with an estimated total show area of over 150,000 sq m.

Su Zimeng, chairman of CCMA, revealed that most of leading global construction equipment manufacturers and key members of CCMA have signed up to participate in BICES. The number of exhibitors and show area are expected to reach historic highs this year.

BICES 2023 will feature 15 themed exhibition areas, plus a special exhibition area to showcase the achievements of the Chinese construction machinery industry in scientific and technological innovations. According to the organisers, the large-scale exhibitors (based on the size of the exhibition space) will include LiuGong, Sany, SDLG, Caterpillar, Zoomlion, XCMG, Komatsu, Shantui, Develon, Heli, Hangcha, CRCHI, Jonyang, Taizhong, Dingli, Tongli, Censcience, CREC, Hitachi, Maxpower, Huatai, Weimeng, Shengfu, Jinta, JLG, XGMA and Chufeng, among others.

Key industry buyers have also been invited to attend the show, said the organisers. These comprise government agencies and various construction companies and associations, such as China Railway Group, China Railway Construction Corporation, China Communications Construction, China State Construction, China Road & Bridge Corporation, Beijing Construction Engineering Group, Beijing Urban Construction Corporation, PetroChina, Sinopec, China Chemical Construction Enterprises Association, China Power Construction Enterprises Association, China Metallurgical Construction Association, and more.

A wide range of conferences, seminars and activities will be held during BICES 2023 as well. Among them are the China excavator industry conference, China construction and equipment technology convergence development conference, China construction crane health ecosphere summit forum, the fourth China industrial vehicle industry new technology seminar, national construction machinery manufacturers association conference, 10th anniversary of high aerial work platform rental series activities, and road building and maintenance machinery expert seminar.

In addition, the ‘China Construction Machinery Industry Chronicle (2016-2020)’ will be launched for the first time at BICES 2023. Other conferences and forums, which focus on global topics, will include the Belt and Road construction machinery international cooperation forum, China-Africa construction machinery cooperation and development forum, world construction machinery intelligence conference, and 2023 global aerial work equipment industry summit and award ceremony, to name a few.

‘Stable and good progress’ in the long term

Mr Su explained that, since the introduction of China’s ‘14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Construction Machinery Industry’ two years ago, the local equipment manufacturers have made a lot of effort to seize development opportunities and take the initiative to respond to risks and challenges.

Their accomplishments are reflected in five aspects, shared Mr Su. First, the industry on the whole has achieved a stable development. Second, the manufacturers have increased their efforts to grow the international market and the export volume has risen significantly, and the quality of global services has also been improved. Third, there has been a continuous increase in R&D investments, acceleration of high-level R&D systems, and positive results in scientific and technological innovations. Fourth, the improvements in industrial basic capabilities and industrial chain modernisation level ensure the high-quality development of the industry. Lastly, the high-end, intelligent and green developments in the industry have led to successful results.

Mr Su further pointed out that from January to May this year, the domestic market’s performance was generally less robust than expected, and great attention should be paid to the new challenges in the development of the industry. He foresees that some products in the domestic market will still face certain pressure in the near future, but with the exertion of policy effectiveness and steady improvement in the market environment, the pressure will be gradually alleviated, and thus the overall construction machinery industry can achieve a stable and good progress in the long run.

Li Jianyou, vice chairman of CCMA and chairman of Carbon Emissions Peak and Carbon Neutrality Working Committee (Carbon P&N Committee) and Engineering Crane Branch, stated that under the guidance and lead of the national carbon emissions peak and carbon neutrality strategy, the construction machinery industry is actively pursuing the path of green and low-carbon development. As such, the Carbon P&N Committee will set up a carbon emissions peak and carbon neutrality show area at BICES 2023 to display its green and low-carbon technology and equipment. Also, together with the organisers, the Carbon P&N Committee will implement a series of activities to promote the green, low-carbon and high-quality development of the construction machinery industry.
