Hong-Kong based New World Development Company Limited, the parent company of K11, and China Merchants Shekou Holdings in Shenzhen, are jointly developing a major commercial complex in mainland China.

Located in Prince Bay, Nanshan District, Shenzhen, the RMB10 billion landmark – named K11 Ecoast – covers a total GFA of 228,500 sq m. It consists of K11 Art Mall, K11 HACC multi-purpose art space, K11 Atelier office building, and the Promenade. This is K11’s first flagship project in the Chinese mainland.

Scheduled to open at the end of 2024, K11 Ecoast is set to become the new harbourfront cultural retail destination in the Greater Bay Area.

The K11 HACC multi-purpose art space will comprise a variety of contemporary arts and creative culture to offer an ideal exhibition and activity platform for artists, designers and art organisations. The K11 Art Mall will allow visitors to enjoy artworks contributed by foreign artists in honour of Shenzhen’s culture.

K11 shared that the name ‘K11 Ecoast’ combines the concept of green development alongside the conservation of waterfront resources. The complex is dedicated to promoting a sustainable, circular lifestyle and integrates the concept of environmental protection.

According to K11, the project is designed and constructed in accordance with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan national guidelines on environmental protection and sustainable development for the circular economy. It is also in line with the ‘Zero-Waste City’ building pilot programme undertaken in Shenzhen.

Furthermore, K11 Ecoast embraces the ‘Sponge City’ concept for sustainable stormwater management, alleviating pressure on the city’s existing drainage system. Featuring 60,000 sq m of outdoor landscaping, the largest among all K11 projects, K11 Ecoast fully incorporates green and healthy building concepts into its design using renewable energy, recyclable materials and hospital-grade air filtering systems.

K11 Ecoast has three WELL pre-certified and LEED Platinum pre-certified buildings at the highest certification level, making it the largest total LEED Platinum pre-certified cluster of buildings in the Greater Bay Area, said K11.

Architects for the project include renowned UK architect David Chipperfield, OMA and Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto.
