Terex Trucks updates TA300 articulated hauler

Terex Trucks has upgraded its TA300 articulated hauler, incorporating a new transmission that leads to a 5% improvement in fuel efficiency. The 28-tonne machine is ideal for quarries, construction sites and infrastructure developments. It offers a heaped capacity of 17.5 cu m and is powered by a Scania DC9 engine, which develops gross power of 276 kW and a maximum torque of 1,880 Nm.

The TA300’s fuel-efficient engine range is globally emissions compliant and meets the requirements of EU and North American legislation without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This is achieved via the latest generation selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, combined with exhaust gas regeneration (EGR) and a variable geometry turbo (VGT).

Since August 2018, the TA300 has been manufactured with the latest EP320 transmission. The updated machine now delivers a 5% improvement in fuel efficiency, a 5 km/h increase in speed to 55 km/h, an extended maintenance period and enhanced performance when compared with the previous model. All of this means that customers can be more productive, achieving faster cycle times, lower cost per tonne and reduced carbon emissions.

The TA300’s new transmission comes with eight forward gears as well as four reverse gears, higher overall gear ratio spread, equal ratio steps between gears, and optimised gear shifting with partial load shifts. These features mean that the upgraded TA300 offers lower fuel consumption with smoother gear shifting and thereby higher levels of operator comfort. The machine also now comes with long life transmission fluid, increasing the length of time between oil maintenance intervals from 1,000 to 4,000 hours.

The TA300 is equipped with true independent front suspension as standard, further enhancing operator comfort and enabling excellent traction control and maximum productivity, even in challenging conditions. The machine also has fully enclosed, oil-cooled, multi-disc brakes at all six wheels. These are supported by both the engine brake and the transmission retarder, giving the operator superb control and increasing safety and stability while providing a low cost of operation.

TA400 articulated hauler

The largest model from Terex Trucks, the TA400, is built to perform in some of the most challenging applications. It has a maximum payload of 38 tonnes.

The TA400 boasts a heaped capacity of 23 cu m and is powered by a Scania DC13 engine that develops gross power of 331 kW and a maximum torque of 2,255 Nm. The machine’s fuel-efficient engine range is also globally emissions compliant and meets the requirements of EU and North American legislation without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Terex Trucks highlighted that the TA400’s drivetrain is perfectly matched to the engine, thanks to automatic adaptive shifting capabilities and a pre-selected two-speed transfer box, along with longitudinal and limited slip transverse differential locks. All of this helps the articulated hauler to deliver improvements in performance and productivity, whatever the application.

Other key performance features of the TA400 include great traction and an effective power-to-weight ratio, which ensures materials can be moved as quickly as possible in all conditions. Thus, users can achieve maximum productivity at a minimal cost.

Reducing operational costs even further, as well as enhancing safety, are the force-cooled multi-disc brakes. Supported by an electronically activated exhaust brake and a six-stage modulating transmission retarder, the TA400 benefits from longer brake component lifecycles. The Allison HD4560 transmission boasts high performance oil and up to 6,000 hours between service intervals.

In addition, the TA400 has magnetic suction filters, which reduce the risk of contaminants entering the hydraulic system. This helps to maximise uptime through cleaner hydraulic oil, longer periods between maintenance and prolonged hydraulic component lifecycles.

To increase operator comfort and productivity, both the TA300 and TA400 have a spacious, ergonomically designed cab with pressurised properties. Acoustic insulation helps to minimise noise levels inside the cab while a high performance and easily adjusted heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system ensures a stable temperature.

Other features of both models include a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, an adaptive air suspension operator’s seat with adjustable armrests, anti-vibration mounts for the engine and cab, and cushioned stops on the steering cylinders.

For safe and easy servicing, these articulated haulers have ground level test points, a fully tilting cab, an electronically raised hood and a full suite of on-dash diagnostic and machine health check readouts that help to maximise uptime.
