IDEMIA Public Security, a provider of secure biometric solutions, announced that its facial recognition algorithm achieved top results in the latest National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Face Recognition Technology Evaluation (FRTE) 1:N Identification benchmark, underscoring its performance in one of the industry’s most demanding and operationally relevant biometric evaluations.

\n\n

The latest NIST FRTE 1:N Identification results rank IDEMIA Public Security first in most tested scenarios, including two of the benchmark’s key identification categories:

\n\n

#1 in all Mugshot Identification types, including NIST’s largest evaluation against a 12-million-identity gallery, demonstrating performance at national scale.

\n\n

#1 in Visa Border Identification, with identification errors reduced by more than 40% compared with IDEMIA Public Security’s 2025 submission.

\n\n

Top tier for fairness in False Positive Identification Rate, supporting accurate identification while addressing fairness requirements relevant to increasingly stringent AI regulations.

\n\n

The FRTE 1:N Identification benchmark measures how accurately facial recognition systems identify an individual by comparing a single face against millions of enrolled identities. It covers real-world applications including mugshot identification, visa processing, border management, law enforcement investigations, and national identity programs. As governments and agencies process millions of travelers and identity transactions, accuracy and scalability are increasingly important. The latest NIST results highlight IDEMIA Public Security’s performance across large-scale biometric databases, supporting secure identification and more efficient experiences for travelers and citizens.

\n\n

\"Achieving top performance in the latest NIST FRTE 1:N Identification evaluation reflects our continued commitment to pushing the boundaries of biometric innovation,\" said Vincent Bouatou, Chief Technology Officer, IDEMIA Public Security. \"Today’s identity ecosystems demand solutions that can accurately identify individuals across databases containing millions of identities while remaining fair, fast, scalable, and operationally efficient. These results validate our investments in AI-driven biometric technologies that enable governments and agencies worldwide to strengthen security while improving the experience for travelers and citizens alike.\"

\n\n

Facial recognition has become central to critical identity workflows, from border control, automated immigration and visa enrollment to national identity systems, law enforcement investigations, and watchlist identification. These applications depend on accurate, scalable biometric matching to support trusted identity decisions in real time.

\n\n

The latest results build on IDEMIA Public Security’s track record in independent biometric evaluations, including leading positions across multiple NIST benchmarks. They also reflect the company’s continued development of fingerprint and facial recognition technologies for large-scale identity solutions worldwide.

Suprema has announced the launch of BioEntry W3, an AI-powered facial authentication device designed for high-security environments.

\n\n

The BioEntry W3 is designed with data privacy as a top priority, addressing concerns through its display-free design and highly secure ‘Template on Mobile’ (ToM) authentication method. The display-free design prevents facial images from being shown on a screen, instead communicating the authentication result through LED indicators and text. This ensures that facial authentication data remains protected from nearby unauthorized individuals in public spaces. Suprema’s ToM method allows users to store and manage their facial images on their personal mobile devices, meaning facial data is never stored in the security system itself. This empowers users with complete control over their biometric data while maintaining security integrity. Equipped with a Secure Element (SE) chip, the BioEntry W3 encrypts all data, and stores encrypted data and cryptographic keys in an isolated environment, ensuring that even in the event of a data breach, decryption is impossible. Also, BioEntry W3 is compliant with major regulations and certifications, including the NIS2 Directive, GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, and ISO/IEC 27701, highlighting Suprema’s dedication to data security and privacy management.

\n\n

Despite its simple mullion-type design, the BioEntry W3 offers exceptional facial authentication performance and durability, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor environments. Its deep learning-optimized Neural Processing Unit (NPU) allows for fast and accurate facial authentication at the edge, face matching in just 0.2 seconds. By processing authentication data in real time at the edge, the device eliminates reliance on network connectivity and reduces latency, making it highly effective in high-traffic environments where security and efficiency are paramount. The slim design and high durability make the device easy to install in any location, optimized for outdoor environments. Its IK08 impact resistance ensures that the device can withstand physical impacts, enhancing its reliability and security in various outdoor conditions. With IP67 water and dust resistance, the device is built to endure extreme weather and environmental conditions, including deserts, ensuring minimal damage and long-lasting performance.

\n\n

\"BioEntry W3 is a future-proof solution that represents a significant leap forward in facial authentication technology,\" said Hanchul Kim, CEO of Suprema Inc. \"It is designed to meet the evolving demands of both security and privacy. By combining advanced AI and edge processing with a privacy-centric design, we’ve developed a solution that delivers top-tier security while enhancing the user experience. Additionally, its robust durability and scalability ensure that the BioEntry W3 can adapt to diverse environments, effectively meeting the varied needs of customers.\"

SAFR SCAN™, the world’s leading facial recognition platform for live video intelligence, was publicly disclosed on the 23rd of March at the ISC West 2022 trade show in Las Vegas.

\n\n

This product harnesses AI that offers high verification capacities and identification for novel and developing applications in workforce management, physical security as well as health safety. SAFR SCAN provides seamless and speedy throughput enabling up to 30 individuals to be verified per minute. Moreover, the competitive price point of SAFR would attract both organizations large and small. Regardless of its use, SAFR can be installed on site, in the cloud, embedded in a smart camera, or with a VMS. All enrolled and scanned biometric data is completely encrypted without capturing any visual imagery of individuals’ faces for privacy purposes.

\n\n

For enhanced physical security, SAFR SCAN showcases anti-spoofing technology with 3D structured light and RGB to certify the liveness of the individual being screened. As SAFR SCAN relies on touchless biometrics technology instead of a keycard-based system, it can be used both indoors and outdoors. The device will be sold in North America via a network of system integrators and has an MSRP of $1,199.
